£49 is not the total cost of a registered LPA

One LPA prepared by us and registered costs £49 + £92 = £141. Both LPAs cost £79 + £184 = £263. We keep the two figures separate so there is no surprise.

Why LPAs cost anything at all

The £92 OPG fee is not a solicitor's markup — it is a statutory registration charge that funds the Office of the Public Guardian's checking and register-keeping function, and it applies equally whether your LPA was typed for free on GOV.UK or drafted by a £600-an-hour solicitor. There is no way to avoid it other than the recognised reductions and exemptions below, and no legitimate provider can waive it on your behalf, because it is paid directly to the OPG, not to us.

How to pay less

Apply for a fee reduction: the OPG halves its fee for gross income under £12,000

A worked example

Priya wants to appoint her husband as attorney for both property and health decisions, in case either of them loses capacity. She checks eligibility, then makes both LPAs together for £79 rather than £49 each — a saving of £19. Her gross income is £11,000 a year, so she also qualifies for the OPG's 50% fee reduction, cutting registration from £184 to £92 for the pair. Her total cost, preparation plus registration, comes to £171 rather than the full £263.

You claim the reduction or exemption directly from the OPG using form LPA120A, alongside evidence such as a benefits award letter or last tax return. This is separate from our £49 fee, which we do not reduce, because it covers the same guided preparation whatever your income.

What low cost does not mean

Low cost is not the same as no protection. Your £49 buys plain English questions built around the official forms, checks for common completion errors, and a signing guide — not legal advice on your personal circumstances. If your situation includes business assets, a likely family dispute or property overseas, say so before you pay and we will point you towards a solicitor rather than take a fee we cannot properly earn.

Common questions

Can I apply for a fee reduction after I have already paid you?

Yes. Our £49 fee and the OPG's £92 registration fee are entirely separate payments, so a reduction or exemption on the OPG fee applies regardless of when in the process you claim it.

Does a low price mean the document is simplified?

No. The LP1F and LP1H forms are the same prescribed forms whoever prepares them. Our fee covers the guided questions and error checking, not a shorter or different document.

Is there anything cheaper?

Doing it entirely yourself on the official forms costs nothing beyond the OPG fee. Our fee buys the guidance and error checking.

Do you charge anything ongoing?

No. It is a one-off fee per application, with no subscription and no renewal.

Is low cost the same as low quality here?

No. The £49 fee reflects that we prepare documents rather than give legal advice, not a reduction in what the document itself contains.
