Spreading the cost

Joan, a retired cleaner receiving Pension Credit, wants an LPA for her son to manage her modest savings if she becomes unwell. The fee reduction only ever applies to the £92 OPG charge, never to a provider's own preparation fee, but it can make a substantial difference to the total when combined with any preparation route.
Who qualifies for the reduced or waived fee
- Gross annual income under £12,000: fee reduced from £92 to £46 per document.
- Receiving Income Support, income-based Jobseeker's Allowance, income-related Employment and Support Allowance, Pension Credit (guarantee credit), or Universal Credit: fee waived entirely.
- Evidence such as a benefits award letter or tax return is required with the LPA120A form.
Signing order applies regardless of the fee paid
Whether you pay the full £92, the reduced £46, or nothing at all, the legal requirements for signing in the correct order and using an eligible certificate provider are unchanged. The fee reduction affects only what you pay the OPG, not the process of preparing and signing the document.

Do I need to prove my income to get the reduced OPG fee?
Yes, the OPG requires evidence such as a tax return or benefits award letter when you apply for the reduction or exemption.
Does our £49 fee also reduce for low income?
No, our fee is fixed regardless of income; only the OPG's own registration fee has an income-based reduction.
Can I apply for the fee reduction after I have already sent the standard fee?
It is best to apply for the reduction before sending payment, as claiming a refund afterwards involves extra paperwork with the OPG rather than a simple exemption at the outset.
Does receiving a fee reduction affect how quickly the LPA is registered?
No, fee reductions do not change the standard registration timescale, which typically remains around 8-10 weeks.
