Our guides deal with money, property, health and care decisions. This page explains how they are produced so you can judge how much weight to give them.

Who writes and reviews our guidance

Guidance on this site is written for a general reader and reviewed by Ramani Gill TEP, Solicitor and private client practitioner. The reviewer checks that the legal position described is accurate for England and Wales and that nothing reads as advice about an individual's circumstances.

How we check the law

• Statutory rules are checked against the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and its Code of Practice.
• Process, timescales, forms and fees are checked against current GOV.UK and Office of the Public Guardian publications rather than against other commercial websites.
• Where a figure changes — the registration fee, remission thresholds, a form version — we update every page that carries it, not only the page you happen to land on.
• Where the position is genuinely unsettled or fact-dependent, we say so instead of choosing the tidier answer.

How often pages are reviewed

Commercial pages, fee pages and anything describing the registration process are reviewed at least every six months, and immediately when the Office of the Public Guardian changes a fee, a form or a published timescale. Background explanation is reviewed annually. The current review date across the library is 13 August 2026.

Corrections

How we use AI
