A worked example
Margaret, 68, wants her daughter Anne to be able to manage her bank accounts and make care decisions if needed. She answers our questions for both LP1F and LP1H over two evenings, naming Anne as attorney and her son as replacement. She pays £79. A retired neighbour who has known her ten years acts as certificate provider. What can go wrong even with a guided service

Common questions
Is an online LPA legally valid?
Yes. Validity comes from the statutory form being completed correctly and signed in the right order by the right people, not from who typed it. The document you download is the official LP1F or LP1H content.
Can I do this for someone else?
You can help someone make theirs, but the donor must have mental capacity and must make the decisions themselves. See LPA for elderly parents.
What if I only need one type to start with?
That is fine. Most people who make one LPA later come back for the other — see can I add another LPA later. There is no discount for buying separately, so if you already know you will want both it is cheaper to do them together.
How is this different from a solicitor?

How quickly can I actually get an LPA in place?
The document itself can be ready to sign the same day. Registration is the slow part, and it takes roughly 8-10 weeks regardless of who prepared the form, because of the statutory 4-week notice period.
