Some people qualify for a reduced or waived OPG fee based on income or benefits — see LPA fee reductions. That reduction applies regardless of which of the three routes above you use.
Common mistakes that delay an LPA online
- Signing out of order — the certificate provider must sign after the donor and before the attorneys, not simultaneously or before
- Choosing a relative or an attorney as the certificate provider, which disqualifies them from that role
- Leaving a required box blank rather than writing 'none' or 'not applicable' where the form expects an answer
- Assuming the document can be completed and signed entirely on a screen — a wet-ink signature is still required

Common questions
Is 'LPA online UK' the same everywhere in the UK?
No. LPAs only exist in England and Wales. Scotland and Northern Ireland use different documents — see Lasting Power of Attorney online UK for the detail.
Do I need to renew an LPA?
No. Once registered, an LPA lasts for the donor's lifetime unless it is revoked, an attorney can no longer act, or the donor cancels it.
Is there a mobile app for making an LPA online?
Our service works through a web browser on phone, tablet or computer; there is no separate app to download.
Can I make an LPA online if I do not have an email address?
An email address is needed to save your progress and receive your documents, so it is worth setting one up first if you do not already have one, or asking a family member to help.
Does making it online mean the OPG receives it electronically?
No. You print, sign and post the original document; the OPG does not currently accept LPA applications submitted purely online.
